Museum aan het Vrijthof wants to introduce pupils to the cultural history of Maastricht in a playful way. Education is one of the spearheads of the museum. Therefore, an attractive educational programme will be developed for primary and secondary education. Most programmes include the combination of observation and action.

The museum wants each Maastricht student to visit the museum, once during their primary education and once during their secundary education. There are also educational activities organised for an older audience. Museum aan het Vrijthof is at the moment preparing an educational programme. The programme will be presented in 2013.

Museum aan het Vrijthof launched her own children's book Masked to the Ball, based on the diary of Sophie von Effinger von Wildegg. The story tells about the life Sophie had when living in Maastricht. She needs to behave according to the standards of her class, but is not always happy about it. Then she meets Gabriël, son of printer Jean-Edmée Dufour, and the adventures begin.
The book is produced in cooperation with Publisher Leopold. The book is written by Arend van Dam and illustrated by Ivan & Ilia. The book is only available in Dutch.
